What to Wear Wednesday – Fall Family Photos 2015

nd we are back for another What to Wear Wednesday.

This week I am focusing on fall family looks.  Family photo sessions can be stressful for families to plan for, but it doesn’t have to be.  Here are a few reminders from past posts of how to dress your family.

1. Coordinate colors – don’t go for matching

Gone are the days of everyone in jeans and a white shirt.  To create an elegant family portrait, families should instead focus on coordinating outfits.  Pick a few colors and incorporate them into your outfits.

2. Pick one or two pattern pieces

Love plaids, stripes, and florals? Great! Pick one or two pieces with the amazing print you found and coordinate the rest of the family around it.  If everyone is in a print your portrait will look too busy.

3. Combine textures

This is where you can really bring in colors for coordinating.  Match your metallic and red jewelry with your child’s red dress.  Do you have a great green scarf? Does it match your spouse’s striped green shirt? This tip adds layers to your color palette and brings the look together.

4. Consider location

Your wardrobe should compliment your background, not distract from it.  Consider where you want your photos taken.  If we are shooting at a park in the spring, you know the background will have a lot of green.  Find clothes that work well with a green spring look instead of blending into the background.  Also, it doesn’t help to shoot in the spring and have a family wear a winter wardrobe.

5. Plan ahead how you want to use your photos

It’s important to know what you want to do with your photos before you plan your wardrobe.  If you know you want photos to hang above your fireplace, try wearing a color palette that will also go with your room’s decor.

So now that you have a few tips, here are a few examples of fall style trends for families.
